Dry brushing is an ancient technique that is still practiced throughout the world and for good reason. It’s super easy, doesn’t take a lot of time, feels great and comes with plethora of health benefits. It can help to increase blood flow, cleanse the lymphatic system, reduce cellulite and exfoliate the skin. There are a few different brushing techniques out there, but this one is my personal favorite. Enjoy!!

My Biggest Takeaway from 50 Shades of Grey

I have a confession to make. I read 50 Shades of Grey. In my defense, I picked it up for our honeymoon a couple of years ago, because I mean, let’s be real. If you are ever going to read 50 Shades of Grey, a beach honeymoon would the time to do it.

If you have been living off the grid, or under a rock, and don’t know about the whole 50 Shades phenomenon, here is what Wikipedia had to say about the book: 50 Shades of Grey “traces the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. It is notable for its explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving bondage/discipline, dominance/submission and sadism/masochism (BDSM).”

Usually I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, but I would definitely categorize this under “Guilty Something”, and not for the reason you might think. The book is engaging and it sucks you in. But as a person who loves to read, it was hard for me to get past the fact that the writing is pretty atrocious.

But let’s be honest. No one is reading this for its literary prowess. Women are flocking to it for the saucy sex scenes. In fact over 100 million women worldwide have bought a copy of this book to see what all the fuss is about. That puts the 50 Shades trilogy in the top 10 list of bestselling novels EVER! A Tale of Two Cities, Lord of the Rings, The Little Prince and 50 Shades of Grey, just to put this in perspective.

What does this all mean?? Are women just looking to be tied up and spanked in the bedroom??

My biggest takeaway from 50 Shades, or rather from the popularity of 50 Shades, is that women all over the world are starved for passion. Not for romance (well maybe that too), but definitely for raw, dirty passion.

I remember watching a video from Kim Anami last year about how 50 Shades of Grey became so popular because women long to be dominated by men.

Now before your get your panties in a wrinkle about such an apparently anti-feminist statement, I think there is some truth to that. In the last 50-100 years, women have made tremendous strides in the world. We were tired of being housewives, cooking dinners and doing laundry. We longed for more, so we took to the working world in force and never looked back.

But the thing is, in order to succeed in that world we had to play up our masculine energy. If you have worked in corporate America as a woman, you have had to become one of the boys more than once. Raise your hand if you have ever cried at work and felt bad about it??

So while we have become more fulfilled in using our mental capacities, our logic and analytical skills (aka our masculine energy), our true feminine nature is still being suppressed.

Women are tired of being domesticated. Caged in. Put into boxes. Forced to work within a system that doesn’t work for us. Pinned down (well at least in most cases…heh, heh). Many of us feel this deep yearning to embody the wild feminine without even knowing what that means.

If you are interested in learning more about the masculine and feminine energies, and the spectrum of each from light to dark, I highly recommend listening to this talk by David Deida. It’s seriously phenomenal and an hour well spent.

To me, what women are lacking goes beyond just sex, though sexual repression is a part of it. What it all comes down to is that women long to feel alive. We want to suck the juiciness from each and every moment as if biting into a ripe mango. We want to feel the life force coursing through our veins, lighting us up from the inside. We want to free our feminine.

Really hot sex is one way to do that. And it doesn’t have to be all kinky and involving strange contraptions. All it requires is that you fully surrender to the moment. Embody the moment.

But there are other ways to feel that life energy also. Only you know what that means for you. It might be surfing and feeling the ocean water splash on your face and the force of the water beneath you. It might be nursing your child on a sun-dappled picnic blanket. It might be eating a really good meal.

Embodying the wild feminine means participating in life. Being life. Creating life. Not just watching it from the sidelines. Not playing it safe because you are afraid of what others may think of you.

It’s time to free yourselves, ladies! Let your hair down and allow your inner wild woman to come out and play. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
